My view is that the US version of the clutch is a larger safety risk. I want to be able to drive the car away from a dangerous place (e.g. railway crossing) using the starter motor in case the engine fails to start.
The US version of the clutch protects careless people from themselves.
The standard version of the clutch protects people from broken hardware.
