I was very excited to see this on the new Aero and wanted to get this, provided it met my needs. Before making the decision I took out a loaner from my dealer and drove it for several days. (I also did this to try out the vent sport seats…. another story).

This will be by 6th Saab; all but the first one have been 5 speeds-M. What I found is basically what others have posted…the paddle M shift is not sporty, it takes way to long to shift (1 – 1.5 sec) once you tap the paddle…. big disappointment. I do find in useful when sitting in traffic to keep the rev’s up and to have more instant acceleration (keeps the tranny in a lower gear) other then that it is just a sales gimmick that almost hooked me in.

I find the Auto portion in Sport mode OK when you are standing on it (WOT), other then that I find it is always in to high of a gear and when you give it some gas it has to down shift once and allot of times twice before taking off and getting going. I suppose this is to keep the MPG's up and emmissions down.

With all that said my main view is comparing it against the Saab 5 speed-M, the 95 Aero should have had a 6 speed-M like the 93. If I compare the auto against others I have driven, IE: the wife’s Lexus IS300 or a rental Maxima, the Saab 95 Auto tranny is very good in all modes, much better then the IS300 which has useless steering wheel controls (small little buttons…)and a very jerky auto mode. I would prefer the M shift to be on the shifter like in the 93’s. If it is for the Wife’s car then go for it, for the enthusiast I say 5spM

I also elected to go with non-vent seats due to how the vent seats sat me up in the cockpit about 1.5-2” higher. The vents seats are fabulous and I am sure here in HOT Houston they would have been great, but I could not get use to the elevated seating. The reg sport seats are so nice and secure, no sliding or movement around corners!!!!

Just my experience,
