I have a 99 9-5 manual. Although the city mileage isn't stellar, the highway mileage smokes. I can definitely get 30-33 mpg on the highway. From mixed city and ocassional highway, I've been doing 22-24.
I used regular 87 octane but the car pinged from that octane. The recommendations that 89 be used as well is good. I used 93 octane - yeah - it hurts.
I also agree with the posters that it's kind of unfair to compare a compact car with your new 9-5 which is a lot heavier. At least you didn't go from that to an SUV!
