Unfortunately, residuals are fixed; not by the dealer, but by Saab financial. There is no negotiation on residuals.
In the past, residuals have been set too high; that is why people are warned not to buy at the residual price. For the most part, that still holds to be true, but do some research. If current market value is higher than your residual, then yes, buying might be an option. Otherwise, take the lease loyalty money and lease another.
Remember, that when you do decide to research current market value, check several different sources. Don't take the first value that you see and make your decision from it alone. Also, take the car by the local dealership and ask them what they would give you for it (not trade-in, but cash). In the end, you'll more than likely find that the residual is too high, but it doesn't hurt to check.
