wife's '99 9-5 I4 SE 58k mi: started OK and continues to start and run perfectly but has the battery warning light ON-stays ON. she came right back home so only drove about a mile but I have cranked it numerous times after perfectly an idled. serp belt is fine. A/C runs, pwr steer runs, etc. I have a cheapo pocket dig v meter so I ran a check: car off v=11.9v car running v=11.6v which was sort of inconclusive for me on alternator vs battery (we know the story one these batteries! 2nd now). since this meter could be several volts inaccurate, I also tried it out on my '94 900s Saab. tested: 15v car off, 17.5v car running. makes sense. also likely the meter is reading little high which means 9-5 might be even lower than the 11.5-11.9v. so....anyone think this is battery or alternator? worth actually driving it to local place to test like Autozone or NAPA? or stay away from them touching the 9-5 electrical system? dealer is 40miles away. sorry for long note. trying to be comprehensive. thank you for any ideas!!! oh, anyone know if the warning light is a low voltage sensor? what is the threshold?
