bulb wire looked great. wiggled around and all. also measured for short. got several hundred ohms impdence through alt as well. bulb wire was not grounded out either. none I could find. inline amp reading with car off negterm-ammeter-negcable from battery was about 500mA for a while, floated around some a few times I checked it, but eventually went to about 200mA. sometimes there is a spark at connection indicating a draw but sometimes not (not enough to see anyway). fully charged battery now at 12.5v and drops to 12.2v when car running so either alt and/or VReg is not working. now the 900s was 12.5v and 13v running. (new DMM). took a good gander at what it would take to get the alt out....I assume the VR is under the plastic cover on back of alt? assuming I could get the VR out/in OK, no way I'd try for the alt itself. I don't see a hole large enough to get it out!! and yes, I was under lifted car and had the belt shroud off. so, seeing how we have a trip on FRI, I;ll be shelling out the extra $$ to my Indi on MON to figure it all out. my 900 has A/C.....issues.....when it gets really hot (hopefully just the thermal cutoff going bad on the comp) and the whole family is piling in for a weekend UP in Daytona FRI. parts wouldnt get here to midweek anyway.....this one I will pass on to the pros. thanks for all your help. at least we tried before just shelling out the bucks. besides, I like fixing things myself if I can and have the time.

BTW...I did get a nice new DMM. SO much better!! AC/DC Volts/Amps, res, diodes, transistors, temp, you name it. nice new toy!! the ice from my freezer is exactly 32F, the amb temp in my garage was about 92F today (FL), my finger temp was 96F, 77F inside house, etc, etc, etc!!!
