My previous point was to consider your own time, etc. in figuring the "cost" of what you are getting.
Not that you should just take whatever deal in the name of expediency. If you look at my post, I explicitly state "figure out the deal you want".
That means do that first with minimal chain jerking of the sales force. Certainly, make your offer to a dealer. If they decline say bye and that's it. Don't play one against the other, jerk chains, etc. you just end up wasting a LOT of peoples' time over... how much?
My approach is to respect the sales person as I would want him to do for me. I don't expect him to sell on my terms. But I am not going to play a game with them, have them thinking I am working with them, whilst really pimping them out whilst working with someone else.
I make my deal; if he says no, I just leave it's over ... that's it...no game...and no coming back
