The point would be that unless one operates the car in a pretty extreme manner - the classic 'run hard and put away wet', then a cool-down period is unnecessary.
What's more critical, and true of ANY car, turbocharged or no, is a warm-up period. Making sure the oil is fluid and flowing before putting the engine under load is a major key to longevity of all the oil-washed parts. The ideal is for everything to be at operating temp, as the clearances are best, but that's pretty much unrealistic. And with today's emissions requirements, cars are designed to heat up faster. When the car is cold, I like to give it 30 -45 seconds to make sure the oil gets where it's needed, and to avoid hard driving until the temp gauge at least gets into the green.
