Cannot imagine going even 10 K on oil

I used to go 3000 on my prior cars,( Saab or otherwise) but reluctantly went up to 5 K with this 2002 model. Like you siad, only a handful of people could ever tink about wanting to drive the same car for 250 K miles, and if I did go that far, I would consider it to be run out at that point ( so I would not give a sh-t about how much wear the bearings and rings had). I think that my main point was that when a manufacturer makes a determination about brand, viscosity, ratings, weight, any of that stuff, they have qualified people who at least did some kind of scientific study to support their actions. If I were to post that I ran Castrol model blah blah in my car for 150,000 miles and the engine did not blow,so what! That does not mean that any other oil I might have put in would not have done the same. I agree that you should stick to the basic type, and service ratings that the manufacturer specifies.Having read some posts that said that the Mobil that comes from one country is better than another's,I say, keep dreaming. Unless someone wants to put his or her credentials as an expert behind those posts,I think it is just people who like to type and think they are experts.
