Blizzacks are great...for a season I've found because that's about all they'll last. The compound just wears down really quickly.
Search throughout the boards and you will find that a big percentage of the users here, including myself, will rave about Nokian WR tires. They're actually an all season with an H speed rating, but also a snowflake rating. I'm on my second season with them and have enjoyed every minute of driving with these on the car.
Also, you will find that SAAB in general is going to be one of the best winter driving vehicles you'll ever come across, especially a FWD car. I've had 110% confidence driving around in some serious conditions with this combination of car and tire.
I'm in Northwest CT and just experienced the same storm...did a 50+ mile trek last night and also one this morning. I could only imagine how good these cars would perform with a dedicated snow tire and studs...although, I really don't think they're needed.
