I run Nokian Hakka 2s on my 2000 9 5 wagon and it is GREAT in the snow. We live at the top of a four mile long dirt road in Vermont that is pretty steep most of the way. We have no problem getting up or down. I don't think you can get a 2 wheel drive car that is much better in the snow--as long as you put snow tires on it! By the way, every time we have a snow storm, I see SUVs off the road all over the place. People up here swear by SAABs in the winter. Get the snows and drive safely.
