For Mike 87 900s, and anyone else interested in my p/s woes, Sunday I flushed out my p/s and replaced with Valvoline Synth. Followed Monster's instructions from 19 Jan, and the process was relatively smooth. One improvement to the process I will suggest:

Before you remove the return hose from the reservoir, use a miteyvac or other available siphon to remove all the fluid from the reservoir. This way when you finally get the stubborn hose off the nipple, fluid won't gush out all over the place and make a mess. My roomate made this useful suggestion to me in helping with the job.

Other than that, like I said, follow Monster's instructions, and you're golden.

I went out to my car yesterday morning and found no leak spot. I was very happy. However, seems like it was probably because I hadn't driven since the flush... this morning there was a puddle under the car again, and the reservoir level was down (from the top of the "FULL" lettering to the bottom)

I'm still hoping that somehow once the flush settles in or whatever the leak will stop. I'll give it about a week of monitoring before I make up my mind. Then I might try the stopleak that Tom Townsend suggested (solder seal M1712) If all that fails, I guess I'll live with the leak as long as I can before replacing the rack. I'm still convinced that somehow (maybe only through strange Swedish voodoo...ta mig fan!) putting in the Mobil 1 10/30 engine oil made my rack start leaking, and I'll swap back to dino 10/30, or maybe 20/50 before I shell out cash for a rack.

maybe Kajsa is just grumpy because her 100th bday is coming up in a mere 75 miles....midlife crisis?

to be (perpetually) continued.....
