Camm, first, do a couple of things to determine what the problem is, actually. To the inexperienced a bad inner driver CAN sound like a whine and be mistaken for a transmission problem. Is the noise accompanied by a vibration under power? Look carefully at the inner drivers. Especially the right one. If you pull the boot back and the grease runs out, that is reasonable. Make sure that you pack it with more grease before you put it back together. Pull the axle and inspect the bore for wear. If it has depressions in it, you may help matters with a inner driver replacement. Pull the diff cover and drain and refill the tranny with the appropriate lube. See if you can visual any pinion radial movement. Tranny rebuilds require pinion depth accurate measurement and crown gear setting relative to the pinion. These require special tools.
The AMM issue... I just read your reply to my post. The car you have is an LH 2.2. You state that you have measured the resistance of the AMM. If you read closely, the resistance of .380 is not the 'set' measurement, but a start point. Start at that point and then adjust it until the o2 sensor responds correctly. The swings should be lower than the 0.48 you mention in your other post. half of the waveform should be less than 0.5 and the other half above 0.5v. I think with an adjustment here, your surging may be helped.
