Sounds like you were 'caught out' with this tranny. Probably over used and under maintained tranny for most of its life. If you get bits of metal shavings (magnetic), it is probably the tranny. I would plan on it. The shavings are from teh bearings and also the gears. Putting it back together without replacing any badly worn gears could shorten the life of the rebuild. You may want to try a used one from a JY car, too. I do not know where you are or if that would be possible for you. one from a NA car with a similar GB number would be a good start. They have less torque and are less likely to be abused. You can use your transfer gears to achieve the same or close gearing. You could do this in a weekend and rebuild the other one 'if you need it'. Good luck.
