I'm going to say, go with the 9000. About the only item that comes to mind in terms of an expensive part that differs between the two is the heater core. Heater cores are a weak spot in the 9000. Other than that, we're talking about the same engine, same AC system, same accessories....
Having had both cars, I find the 9000 easier to work on. Yes, the alternator is easier to get to on the 900, but when it comes to just about any other accessory, the 9000 wins hands down. All the important bits on the 900 are flush up against the firewall. In the 9000, you just drop out the wheel well inner liner, and it's all staring you in the face.
It would come down to this - if you need a clutch or heater core, the 9000 will cost you more. Otherwise, pretty much the same. And I find 9000 access to be much better.
There is a big difference between the cars. A '93 900 is the last year of a chassis that dates back to about 1980. The 9000 is just hitting stride, and the '93 has had a facelift over the '92. The 900 is actually LONGER than the 900, but smaller inside. The space inside a 9000 is downright astounding. And that's compared to a 900, where carrying major kitchen appliances is an everyday task.
No question, having the additional two doors on the 9000 makes for much better access. I loved my 900T, but for the mundane tasks of life, the 9000 is a much better car. I find the handling better, ride smoother, and it'll hold an amazing amount of stuff.
Just my $0.02
