Unscientific analysis:
900 is base model - no frills, no turbo, no power windows or mirrors etc, but still has heated seats (if they still work) and power steering and locks. Cloth seats. Steel wheels
900S has the power bits but still sans turbo. Leather seats. Alloy wheels. Sunroof.
900T is all the S bits but with turbo.
900T SPG has all the 900T bits but lowered and with special alloy wheels and side skirts. Tweaked a bit to be faster than 900T

Auto trannys are reputed to fail around 70-100K miles. Manuals generally last 150K miles. Regardless of what you get, at this vintage look for one that has been recently rebuilt. Automatics can feel slow compared to a manual.

2 engines to select from - 8 valve and 16 valve. 16 is peppier.

Manual, non-turbo will likely be the most reliable (it was for me), but a turbo is lots more fun. Saabs can be expensive to maintain because at this age the major things start to break. Find a good, honest, independant Saab mechanic and also learn to repair the little things yourself (buy the Bentley manual!). Look for a well maintained car with a service/repair history. Have a mechanic check it over as well. These are essential.

What's your budget?
