Hi MS. The scoop I picked up from some performance shop.(1" high and 12"x6" made of fiberglass.) It looks great! The main reasons for putting the scoop on was to stop rain from getting in and to see if it inproved performance. Another was seeing different ram air systems to get more cold air into engine. WASSAAB said he was going to put an air scoop directly over his air can. An auto program said that this position is too close to the front of the car which causes a vacume. Right before the windshield would be best. Mine is 12" in front of windshield. Another guy had an opening directly under his air can. He didn't have a scoop but had an air intake which would seem to be less effective at forcing air. Another problem I see with this is dirt and water splash form road and tires shooting up air tube. I have also seen guys cutting through the fender directly to the side of air intake without a scoop thus not forcing as much air in as it could. Going through the fender meant a lot of work cutting and finishing and relocating all the components the normally sit there. They also didn't have a closed air system to force air into engine but just had a K&N sitting there in the open. I have a heavy rubber circular piece that is molded to seat against hood intake when hood is closed. I got an A/C vent connector and turned it upside down after cutting it flat. Then screwed it under the air scoop on the underside of hood and sealed it. This, with a flexable rubber piece will give and air tight connection. Next, I cut a half circle in the metal wall by the large fuse box. I'm going to take off the fuse box cover to allow more room for the air hose. Will probally cover the fuse box with a lower cover. Then the hose runs over the wheel well down to the stock air intake where I cut through the metal wall a similar half circle as by the fuse box for the air hose to travel through where the hose connects to the stock air hose where I cut of the large stock intake. I may replace the stock air hose totally with a bigger one from the wrecking yard but for now I will try it. This system should force a lot of air into the system and the air should also be colder as it's not sucked from the engine compartment. My mechanic said water will not pass through the oil covered K&N and will go out the drain holes in the stock air can. I was considering as OEM air bypass valve but mechanic said this wasn't needed. The higher the speed the more air will be forced in. I'm having a lot of fun working this all out and I will keep you guys updated. I'd like to get some pictures up but I'm still not sure exactly how to do it. Does Yahoo have a page I can post pictures or is there some other way? Best, KB.
