Wally,
I recently bought some bulbs for my Mom's '90 900 (and I got 'em at the local Wal-Mart auto section, here in western North Carolina).

I used General Electric #37 for heater fan knob, air distribution knob, headlight switch, A/C switch, hazard switch, ashtray light, etc. (large push button switches have a removeable bulb holder in these pre-87 or pre-88 900 models; owners of newer 900s must either take switch apart and re-solder in a new bulb OR buy a WHOLE pricey new switch!!!).

The headlight knob, and the four big pushbutton switches (2 to the right and 2 to the left of the cigarette lighter) all use the small pinch-to-release bulb holder. Once you get the switch out you can see it on the backside of the switch (front of car, if installed in dash). Pinch and pull (it's hard to get a grip on if your fingers are big). Bulb simply stays in holder in a friction/push fit, like AG1 flashbulbs of the 1960's.

The fan speed knob, air distribution knob, seat belt warning light, heater temp knob, and ashtray light are a bit harder to access. For replacing all these in this paragraph except the ashtray light, radio must be removed--at least that's easiest for me. Reach down to access bulbs via vacated radio space. (Four nails or 2 pieces of coat hanger bent to the correct hook-shape have been mentioned on this board for removal of factory SAAB/Clarion radio. I've never been forturnate enough to get a 900 w/factory radio, though.)

For the instrument (tach, speedometer) lights, of which there are only two for illumination and the rest are warning lights, use W3W by G.E. Access these bulb holders after removing the driver's side speaker grille (with a stubby Phillips screwdriver). [However, I used G.E. #194 bulbs there, though some say it is a higher wattage, 5 watts, than SAAB spec. of 3 watts and will melt/warp fragile printed circuit which supplies power to instrument/warning lights.]

Hope this helps!
