I've never seen them on the two I own. I think European production procedures are/were different. Instead of a base car that you could pick and choose options for and the factory added as needed on the line, Euros had a base and then a higher model with all options. They would do a production run of the base model, then a production run of the other alternating days/weeks at a time.

I was told (but never confirmed) that VW used to paint black cars one day, red cars the next, etc, doing change overs at night and staging either of the two color interiors that would go with your exterior color. When I bought one new back in 1980, they had to search dealer inventories for my color, I could not just order what I wanted due to production scheduling.
It was their way of assuring quality control.

So the funny story is that a few years back I was helping my friend shape up a 1985 Buick intermediate for his daughter (horrible car - work on a 85 Buick and then a SAAB of the same era - the GM stuff is just crude materials and assmbly procedures by comparison, you really appreciate the SAAB). The power windows were not working so we took the door apart and found a build sheet describing the interior door trim, power options (windows, mirrors) and we saw a note in ballpoint pen to call this woman on Friday with her name and phone number. So I laughed and whipped out the cell phone and called the number and asked for her. SHE STILL LIVED AT THE SAME NUMBER 15 YEARS LATER!. We told her what happened and she laughed, saying she worked in the admin office at the plant and used to date some of the line workers, eventually marring one of them. One for the books.
