I have found that the piston that faces the inner side of the yolk freezes up while the piston facing the pad remains free. Sometimes you can't change the pads when it gets stuck like this. I suspect that road moisture can enter the outside, as well as from neglected brake fluid.
I have been successful freeing up this piston by clamping off the rubber fluid hose and removing the whole caliper. I then free the stuck piston by twisting with a big screwdriver in the yoke slot and then completely take apart the caliper. I then use solvent and #400-#800 wet/dry paper to remove the corrosion/rust from the piston and cylinder. Then I thoroughly clean the caliper with brake cleaner spray and reassemble and bleed the brakes. I got tired of replacing calipers and just experimented, and have been able to get some extra life out of them. Technically you are supposed to use cylinder hones but I have been lucky so far with the fine paper. You just have to be careful not to scratch the surface, like you would with #150 paper.
