Chris,
good for you! I spent ten times more only for parts and labour in the last weeks on this Saab. Two times headjob, a lot cooling system parts, many hoses and vaccuum lines, special tools, parts for the brake.
BTW the front calipers were renewed in 2001, together with the brake disc. I renewed the pads as they are uneven worn. One side was less than 4mm thick, the other side 6 mm.
I needed no extra power winding back the pistons, all there was no rust or unusual thing.
The hand brake is clicking only 3-4 times, not more. Probably in needing of adjustment.
The whole Saab will be trailerd to a Saab Shop in Cologne, Germany. If the people there will find the faults - I'm happy. If not I'll scrap the Saab and sell it in parts.
Seems to me that you have a lot experience with older cars. I had never-ever such a lot troubles with any other car I owned in the past. The Saab is a one owner from new car, everytime serviced at Major Saab workshops. Service history. Low mileage. No rust at all. Owner was before a sedate driving doctor. Car was serviced regardless of cost. He took the Saab for the weekly washing to the Saab workshop. Kind of MB care I suppose. Saab was used the last five years rarely. Never as a trailer. Now around 112,000kms on the clock. Year of make 1982.
My 1966 Rover P5 3 litre Automatic Coupé has now 185,000mls on the clock and is still running with the original motor, gearbox and brake calipers. The seals and hose of the caliper where last year renewed, just be on the safe side...
