Cooling systems and stop leak!!?? Posted by Frak [Email] (#1515) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Frak) on Tue, 19 Aug 2003 16:33:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
1992 900 turbo 133,000 miles!
I recently replaced all of my cooling hoses and thermostat do to a slight leak in the lower radiator hose, replacing the coolant with Mercedes brand as per the Saab Master.
I figured I would repair the entire system before failure occured.
It appears a simple drain was not enough to remove the stop leak product the last owner used in the car.
I went to the local garage reccommended by a co-worker. (non-Saab) For $70 they can flush the system but tell me they can not remove the stop leak from the coolant pump or the radiator. They recommend I replace both to make the job worth while.
They did say I could have my radiator treated at a radiator shop to remove the stop leak if I wanted but for the cost thought a new radiator would make more sense.
I can do the labor on this job myself excluding the flush of the cooling system.
Any thoughts on this? Is this true that it can not be removed from the system in it's entirety?
How would I get the slob from my garage to the shop after putting in a new radiator and water pump with out contaminating it? Shouln't drive it right?!
All comments welcome! Thanks!!!
