Car towed home - timing chain damage?

I had my car towed home because it wouldn't start. I got it started the next day, but I'm not really sure what I did that allowed it to start. I do know that the problem was something electrical.
Not that it starts I've got a new problem: a loud knocking from the timing chain area. I upgraded my 85t to the newer style tensioner a few months ago. Could towing the car have stretched the timing chain or damaged the tensioner? The car was towed from the front with the transmission ingear. I didn't think the driver was rough with the car.
The sound definitely is most loud in the area just above the upper guide. If it's the chain, what would make it get so bad so quickly. It was quiet last week and the upper pad is only a few months old.
I took off the valve cover and everything looks OK too.
Any ideas? Thanks, Chris 85t
