Hmmm... Yes, yes, read the procedure, and yes.
The trans is compatible but get some more input on driveshaft lengths- I'm pretty sure the ABS shafts are a little longer due to the need for wheel speed sensors' inductive pickups.
The speedo/odo should be the same part. Both cars are turbos so the final drive and speedo drive gearing should be the same. I'd recommend pulling the panels and carefully swapping the speedos instead of doing the whole cluster since the warning lights and wiring will do different things.
As far as special tools, you'll need a tool to lock the flywheel in place, a tool to align the shifter (or you can just try a few times and get it right) and a spacer for the clutch return spring fingers. Also be sure to have enough CV grease (inner drivers) and gasket and sealant compounds. Penetrating oil really helps. I used little "disposable" (or recyclable) plastic containers like dip containers to catch fluids like when you disconnect the PS lines.
Also keep in mind other projects you may want to do with everything all torn apart, such as inner drivers, crank pulley, A-arm bushings (which require removal of the engine sometimes!) and the like. Also the clutch master is a whole heck of a lot easier to access.
I was in the same boat. I'd done brake work, exhausts, minor engine stuff like gaskets and such, ball joints, and electrical work but I'd never taken a driveshaft apart before I did mine.
Plus read the auto-to-manual bible for details on what has to take place. All you have to do is map it out in your head with forethought on what bolts could be difficult to remove, what parts and supplies you will need, what tools are required, and the usual TON of patience when working on cars. Give it time and take your time and be proud of a job you did right when it's all done.
My car would've been in the junkyard two years ago last week (that's 35,000 miles ago) if I didn't convert it. Give yer turbo new life!
