'85 Speedometer won't work in an LH 2.4 car Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Sat, 22 Jan 2005 15:43:27 In Reply to: '85 compatability in an '89, transmission and speedo?, omturbo, Sat, 22 Jan 2005 06:42:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The LH 2.4 cars take a speed signal from the back of the speedometer. The LH 2.2 fuel injection systems (nonturbos up to '87 and turbos up to '88) don't need a speed signal, so the speedometers from those cars don't have the capability.
You'll want to grab a speedometer from an '89 or later, have the odometer drive gear replaced (just in case), and transplant that into the car.
The shifter rod in the '89 is different in the '85, so you'll also need to transplant the one from the '85 into the later car.
The '85 Turbo transmission has a slightly different primary drive ratio drive ratio than the '89, so your RPMs at any given speed will be about 7-1/2 percent higher than the '89.
