been there, done that.
I brushed polyester resin into the shell two years ago and used 3M general trim adhesive which is what 3M recommended for this app (higher heat resistance). The fabric still pulled away in a few spots but only because of my novice application style, so I redid it last month. This time I used the same 3M general trim adhesive but added 3M super trim adhesive in the concave areas where fabric pulled away. Both are more heat resistant than the other 3M aerosol adhesives. The super trim has lots more solvents in it and trickier to apply than the general trim. I wouldn't use it again.
I definitely would NOT use the super 77 or 90 as they'll work fine for a while but the sun's heat on the roof will eventually kill them faster than the general trim stuff.
I have no idea if your adhesive was up to the job but the heat resistance is definitely a critical factor for this app.
