I was hoping there was a work-around for the bridging fabric, but it sounds like we'll have to redo it (crap!). The owner at the upholstery shop suggested injecting glue & pressing the loose fabric into place, but I'm not too sure that'll help.
I hadn't thought of coating the shell with anything first, but since it's flaking/delaminating it seems like an awfully good idea to coat it. The polyester resin sounds like it would hold things together better than an oil-based coating. Is there a specific product that's best for this?
I guess my biggest concern now is how to get the new fabric off without leaving huge chunks of foam/adhesive stuck to the shell. DougM's pics are great & he shows sanding the shell. That seems like a good idea, too. I was too afraid of damaging it to do any prep work to the surface.
My son's thinking he wants to let a shop re-do it, but I suspect they won't take the time & trouble that we would to get it right (or it'll cost too much if they do!). I was also thinking of using the split headliner from the site sponsor (I don't recall which one) & saving ourselves the time & trouble. Any other tips/hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.
