Exactly what's the issue - was a different plug spliced in to the wiring? Did those wire splicings come loose? Uninsulated wires cross against each other? Both the wire and plug have three seperate wires, each one insulated with a different color. Can you peel back the main insulation on both sides of the splice to see the three distinct wire coloring? Resplicing is a matter of rejoining the wires according to the same colors. Insulate each of the three wires properly with elec tape and you should be good to go... assuming there are no other problems. The plug connection at the distributor body is a known location for a break in the wiring integrity. In my situation I had the distrib side plug inner prongs slacken so they weren't tightening around the plug side prongs. A matter of pulling them out a little with a pick to re-establish a connection. To answer your question about what might happen if the wires cross each other and risk shorting something - that I don't know. If you don't know if they shorted or just became disconnected because of a half assed splice, then resplicing everything properly and turning the key over will tell you what you've got.
