Hello Everyone,
The weather has been holding out for awhile so I thought it would be a good time to give my 1986 900 Turbo SPG a complete front brake job including rebuilt calipers, new rotors, new brake lines, and brake pads. Needless to say it has been a challenge so far! Thank god I love sobs and look at the whole project as theraputic. The propane torch and a new cordless impact wrench have become my new friends!!! I almost have one side complete. I managed to install the new rotor, caliper and brake line but I'm getting hung up with the brake pads. I bought the "mintex" pads at eEuroparts and they definietely are the ones for the vented rotors. My problems is the fit is so tight I had to get them in the rest of the way by giving them a hardy tap with the hammer. You know your in trouble when the hammer comes out!! Any way I did wrestlet them in and when I tried to put the guide pin in I couldn't get it far enough through to expose the hole for the cotter pin. I then thought it might be a good idea to take the pads off and shave some material off but those things aren't moving. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is it only with MINTEX??? Should I just go ahead and try to destroy one of the pads and chalk up the experience and then buy new pads???? I'm kind of at my wits end... My fingers and back are sore.....and the weather is getting cold real fast....any advice would surely be appreciated... Thanks
Tom
