Thanks everyone! Just to clarify, both cars are turbos. The '89 convertible is the automatic and I'm trying to make it into a 5-speed. The SPG is an '88 and a 5-speed. I'm pretty sure the SPG is a recovered theft. In any case, there is no title, so it can't be made roadworthy. It's missing the wheels, panels and most of the cosmetic SPG stuff. If I understand all of you correctly, the easiest course of action would be to swap the 5 speed and necessary components into the '89 convertible and leave the existing ('89) engine in it. Would it be easier still to find another '89 turbo 5-speed and swap the components from it? I know that the later transmissions have an improved pinion bearing.
My father originally bought the SPG with the intention of converting my mom's '91 auto convertible. He lost interest, which is why I'm interested.
Many thanks!
David
