Do yourself a favour & do as little as possible...if you actually have the time to convert that 2.1 to a turbo, I'll assume you don't have a girlfriend - perhaps you're better off, but lets address your bad rod bearing first...What makes you think thats the problem? Saab lower ends are extreemely robust, & the fact that your car is only pushing about 140 hp makes a rod bearing failure dubious (unless your car hasen't seen an oil change since the break in service). How many miles on her presently? If somewhere north of 120k, and you are hearing a knock, my money would be on the timing chain, not the rod(s). Hopefully you have'nt pulled the motor yet & can get someone in the know to listen to it running. Should your bod bearing diagnosis turn out to be correct, however unlikely, I'd repl. ALL rod & main bearings & timing chain/sliders/tensioner etc., then start changing your oil more often! If you have a real desire to bump up the performance some - check out Sweedish Dynamics in CT, they have lots of neat go fast goodies for n/a models as well as turbos. Try to get past the idea of adding a turbo, thats going to be a real can of worms and you'd be much better off looking for a nice clean 900T in the classifieds.
