yank on it like you are trying to pull a tooth... it starts slowly but then comes out. If it wont come out... get an A framed ladder, set nest to the car, get either a cresent wrench and climb the ladder, put the jaws of the wrench below the barrel on the end of the antenna, adjust the jaws to just touch the shaft, then grab the wrench with both hands and yank straight up. this also works with your antenna only opens 2 or 3 segments to get it to "open up".

*KEEP* the silver sleeve that comes out, you should have received one with the new antenna, but a spare is always a good thing. It goes in just before the threaded nut, it keeps the antenna from pushing the mast completely out of the antenna housing.

It's best to have a helper to turn the radio on/off. If you got the unit almost out go ahead and finish taking it out. Then on a clean large surface carefully undo the little nut on the side of the round black housing, make sure you don't lose any parts. You are looking to see if all of the white notched plastic of old mast is gone, take any pieces still in there out. put it back together and reinstall in the car. note which side of the round black takeup reel has the antenna shaft. when you feed the new mast align the notches toward the reel. power on, after it stops clicking push the plastic of the mast in and orient correctly, power off and if it doesn't pull, turn a little and push a little, repeat until it takes it from you. when it's almost all down, or perhaps all of the way down, leave power off, put the silver sleeve in with the lip up (only way it fits), put the rubber spacer on the shaft if off, then thread on the nut finger tight. cycle power a couple of times, it should eventually retract completely.

Step back and admire your work, and think about the $$$$'s you just saved.

You are now qualified to replace broken antenna masts!
