Walt, Yeah isn't that funny? For my own car(s) I prefer about an '87 or '88 unit. Rebuilt lots of these and I really don't think that the one big pinion bearing has any measurable positive effect. The only real improvement (in my opinion) was the collar under the cluster's rear needle bearing. Used to have to put a layshaft and bearing in every rebuild before that. Putting the centering spring in the gearbox may have been a good thing too (until it breaks). Cheers.
