If you can afford a toy you can afford either the nicest thing out there (commemorative edition or sub-100K).
If you want to go the bargain route, get a turbo automatic with a blown transmission and fix it yourself, think of recycling without the junkyard yet.
'89 on had stronger pinion bearings
'91 on had wimpier shift forks
'88 on had water-cooled turbos
'88 on had 9000-style brakes (not sure if the old yokers ever got on the convertibles)
'90 on had ABS, whether or not you want that is up to you
'91 on saw the addition of the non-turbo S convertible
'92 on saw a fatter wrap-around rear spoiler
'93 on saw removal of some badging
'94 was the last year of production for classic converts, ending with the 500-unit special edition. By mid-year all ragtops got woody dash trim.
