at least, if you want a toy that won't be a maintenance headache. That was my strategy when I bought my '91 Monte Carlo SE....it was in mint condition and needed minor upgrades to make it as close to perfect as I could get.
My recommendation is to go for one with a 5 speed, top in good shape and one that has had some suspension upgrades (shocks and bushings). This will save you on long term maintenance projects. '91 on had slightly more robust transmissions...having driven both 5 speed and 3 speed auto, if you like manual trannies, then skip the 3 speed...it's much louder on the highway, and the 5 speed is a more fun ride, and more relaxing on longer trips.
