vvack, Yes, the late tripod bearing will go onto an older axle shaft just fine (and vice-versa). Get the orientation right and be sure that the snap ring has not been damaged. Sorry to say this, but with such a mismatch I would expect any drive over about 2 miles has the potential to damage the new c. flange. Sounds like what you need to do is fit the car with 2 new c. flanges and 2 new tripod bearings, all later style of course. Good luck.
