Good tips. I usually use a small butane torce (a pencil torch) to heat up the coupler's body around the pin. That works quite well. Then a c-clamp or hammer.
I'd never reuse the pin, though. It's like $6 for the pin/nut/washer on eeuro, and that's too cheap to risk reusing a structually questionable pin IMHO...
If worse comes to worse, you can unbolt the shift coupler and remove the pin once the engine is out of the car... You will have to go through the realignment process, but at some point the extra time spent is worth saving the pain and frustration under the car.
