If you search the site, somewhere I read a method to hook up a light to the wires from the knock sensor (at the APC module) so that it will light up when your knock sensor triggers the APC. That way you can see the actual feedback the APC module is getting from the knock sensor. It may help you further diagnose your problem -- if the knock sensor is going off while the car is idling, you've got some source of noise interfering with its operation.
You can just run the wires outside the car for diagnosing your current problem then permanently wire the light into the dash at some point in the future, if you so desire. This should cost you no more than a couple of dollars in parts and will probably take you longer to find on the site than to hook up on the car.
I plan on doing this at some time in the future, using the small red diode in the driver's side grill (for the Saabguard alarm which doesn't currently work).
