One of the problems with knock sensors is they are torqued too tightly when installed. I forget what the installation torque is, but find it out and ensure it is not exceeded.

The other problems is whether in fact you are getting high speed knock that is causing detonation which is picked up by the sensor and holding back your boost.
1. Try retarding intial advance to 12BTDC. If you get full boost, you WERE probably detonating.
2. Try adding a couple cans of octane booster to the Sunoco 94 or better high octane gas you're using. If the boost comes up, again, it's probably detonation.

At the end, to give you the German version, you'd have to subject YOUR sensor to a calibrated detonantion signal/vibration, probably from a vibration generator or known detonation signal from a research engine, and check it on an oscilloscope to see whether it's within parameters.

Far cheaper to either put your sensor on someone's known-to-be-operating well system and see if theirs goes to base boost or to buy a new knock sensor and install it. The sensor-in-a-rag indicates the sensor is either too sensitive or failed or is indeed picking up detonation.

Last thing...high speed detonation is nothing to fool around with. It WILL lead to a holed piston.
