It is absolutely possible to have knock at idle... in fact, the knock sensor is only accurate to a few thousand RPM before all the other engine noises and such rattle it's little brain out and it becomes useless for actual knock detection.

Did you try removing the knock sensor from the engine and testing it with your DMM and your LED? Does it continue to misbehave when it's knock bolted to anything? How about tapping it with a screwdriver while it's unbolted - does that produce any result?

Knock sensors can and do fail - but don't rule out the possibility that it's picking up legitimate noise from the engine, possibly knock, and responding accordingly. I'd check to be sure your accessories (water pump, alternator, etc) are in good shape and their mountings (bushings, bolts) are in good shape and securely tightened. Check your crank pulley, your ignition timing, and your timing chain guides/tensioner/pad to be sure the engine isn't making more noise than it should...
