I'd take the 900, no questions asked. The track is not fast, per se. Last year was .3 miles with very little opportunity for all-out acceleration. We used the single straight as a means to pass people safely, since the 900T was amongst the fastest cars out there, but that was more the key to fun than the key to victory. All the top cars were nowhere near as fast as we were, but a helluva lot more consistent. That is the approach that will win (but who knows if it's the approach we'll take :)
I'd take the easy-to-drive, straight-tracking 900 out. If you gut that thing and throw on some sticky tires, I'll bet the lack of speed will be made up for by not having to slow down. :) Less weight and less power also means less wear and tear on your brakes and tires and better fuel economy, which is a plus. But, hell, if you want to go faster, just bolt on a turbo from another 8v an run premium gas at low boost. That's a $100 junkyard upgrade, and I don't think the stock 9:1 compression with 8psi and an intercooler is even a risk - but it should be good performance!
I'd also say the smaller the better (to a point) - it's tight with fifty idiots (us included) on a small track, and I think your only chance of success is something small enough to sneak through, or something big enough to force through. I don't think the 9k qualifies as the latter. :) Plus, I don't think you're gonna wanna deal with a handling headache in something you have to spend 16 hours in. That's a lot of additional fatigue.
Feel free to go sign up on the forum at boxwrenchgarage.com if you like - that's our planning headquarters and we're trying to push it as a discussion forum for LeMons. There were a ton of good people out there last year - I think everyone has something useful to share.
