Interesting.....My 1992 TC did the same thing while I was on a trip to Eastern Washington and heading back towards Portland. I started up a pass that was maybe 2 or 3 thousand feet. My car did the same thing. A few months later my distributor went out. I replaced it with a good used one and it hasn't done that ever again. Those wires get loose and weakened in the distributor. When I looked at mine after it left me dead on the road, (right near my house as I coasted into a parking spot), I touched the wires and noticed one was broken and then another broke.
I'm not saying this is your problem, but it seems suspicious. I'd go with the new fuel filter 1st as KenManiac explained.
Let us know the cure for those hiccups! Maybe try sneaking up on your car popping a paper bag real loud.............LOL
