Paul:
I agree with you. If someone else wrecks the car - their insurance is supposed to pay - but that insurance company does not have the agreed value with you.
However - if you the car is covered by an agreed value by a legitimate insurer - the other company will typically pay that amount - provided it's not obvious fraud.
You can't pull a $100,000 agreed/value policy, and then have a local hoodlum-for-hire crash into your car while it's parked at the post office.
If they don't pay the real value - then your back and neck really hurt.
Simple.
American Family is writing an agreed-value policy. I provided pictures and the value from NADA Classic Car guide. I'm being written at $6,240, which is low retail for the car as a classic sports car. Which is excellent, because after the Trans and AC, that's almost exactly what I'll have in to it. So it will be repaired up to that amount, and any crashes will be covered up to that amount, and I'll be whole. Not happy, but whole.
Normally, they require the car to be 20 years old, but they made an exception.
I don't have to mess with special insurers, or appraisers or anything else. All done. Nice and easy. Just how I like it.
