I think nothing substitutes for hard work. Two ways to go: 1) pull the seats and do a thorough wet vac of the entire carpet. Or better yet, 2) pull the seats and console and entirely remove the carpet from the car, wet it down with the hose, scrub carpet shampoo in by hand, then use a power washer to rinse the crap out of it. Shake out excess water, then use a wet vac to get it as dry as possible and let it air dry (probably will take a day or two).
Seriously labor intensive, but still only an hour or two. Of course you'll be wthout the use of the car for two days. I've done this with the carpeting to every used car (every car!) I've ever owned. Other than sun fading or wear spots, its like making the carpet new again. Its also a good time to reinforce wear areas (from behind) like where your heel digs in near the accelerator. I use old blue jeans and contact cement to patch tears (pull them together and apply the patch to the back of the carpet), and with floor mats, its fairly invisible.
