Suspension refresh - any order? Posted by ChrisMiami [Email] (#1592) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ChrisMiami) on Wed, 20 Jun 2007 04:01:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm finally about to charge into a complete refresh of the rubber in my engine compartment and suspension (f/r). I've read Bentley a few times, but I can't really come up with any particular order for dismantling and reassembly. Seems like if I just start pulling things out it should go OK.
Stuff I'm planning to replace/refresh:
front wheel bearings, front ball joints(all), shocks, rotors, brake pads, all bushings (control arms, sway bar, etc.), swap axles left-for-right, all the boots (incl. repacking/checking cv joints), checking for anything else that needs TLC. Should I just rip it all out at once?
While I'm in there, I'll also replace all 3 engine mounts, a fan, all vacuum hoses, clutch lines (maybe rebuild the slave cylinder, what the heck -- the bad mounts have impacted the clutch's ability to clutch anything, which I suspect -- er, hope -- is a broken line). Maybe I should go ahead and put some stainless brake lines in.
So my question, really, is about the order of all this stuff, which appears in Bentley in individual pieces - how do I structure the project as a whole? Are there any gotchas? I suppose I'll need a spring compressor? Anything I should make sure NOT to do?
THANKS!
Chris
