Thanks Mike for the info!

I did a 'partial' rebuild a few years ago, pulling it all apart, cleaning and adding oil. My brushes were worn pretty small then, and that rebuild seemed to work a few years.

I guess my concern is the huge start-up spike. My engine RPM dips, stutters for a fraction of a second (if at idle), then recovers. Just that every once in a while the fuse blows, and it is never at an opportune time.

I thought there must be more efficient fans out there that could meet the cooling needs of the car. The dog days of summer here south of D.C. can kill a car!

I'll rebuild for now and look for a better fix.
