Yeah, I would say that the belts and/or harmonic balancer squealing would become apparent while under no load (just revving engine).
In the 9000, you can put a chalk or paint mark on the face of the harmonic balancer and crank pulley combo, then run the engine, turn it off, and look at the mark. If it is not inline, then the rubber insert between the two is shot, allowing them to separate. I don't know if this holds true for the c900.
I know when I've needed to figure out where a sound was coming from, I would have someone in the car put it in gear and *SLOWLY* drive it back and forth in the driveway while I walked beside the open hood. You don't need much to get the turbo spinning.
