Torque not critical on balljoint bolts. Just good and tight...I never used my torque wrench on them.
Hammer blows to spindle where the joint goes through is the most practical method to pop the joints. You probably did this.
Some other noise makers.
Shock bushings(upper and lower).
Tie rod ends. usually obvious when you do the bj's
Exhaust brackets(if turbo, the one to the trans case).
Sway bar bushings inner and outer. Try a squirt of soapy water or windex on each bushing one at a time to see if the noise stops.
Rear control rod bushings.
Front control arm mounting bolts can loosen up.
Also, carefully inspect your front lower control arms for fracture/cracks. The passenger side lower rear(front wheel) is the usual culprit with vertical cracks appearing near the inner mounting point. If you see cracks, replace the arm, since it is ready to snap. Before they break, you can hear groans from the arm as the crack flexes. Luckily these normally snap when backing up at low speed.
Are the motor mounts OK? Movement in shifter?
