One problem that has surfaced lately even for "real Saab mechanics" is that the pool of good used parts or new ones have dried up.

Many and most hard parts inside cannot be bought anymore from Saab and the few things available are so high priced that it doesn't make sense to rebuild but to find a good rebuilt unit from the big suppliers that still have used parts to pick from.

When this model was going strong in the 80s and 90s, we had piles of good used transmission parts from scrapped transmissions, but the common gears and syncros have been used up and you see less and less of them.

It is also a lot less people ready to plunk down $2-3000.00 into their car for a transmission rebuild.
