Thanks for all of the help. The charging light still goes out at higher revs and tomorrow I'll be heading back to DC. I bought a spare battery as an insurance policy for the drive back. Amazingly, I found a voltage regulator (in stock, no less)at a NAPA nearby. If the car dies on the way back to DC, I'll be able to swap the battery to get to a well lit area to make the repair . The agravating part of all of this is that I put a new Beck Arnley rebuilt alternator (with a lifetime guarantee)in about 13-14 months ago! With a bit of luck, I can get home without any excess trauma and get back to my nice warm garage to deal with this (It was snowing here in B'Burg today).

Once again thanks for the help. BTW, the numerous typos in the original post are the result of my large thumbs on a small Blackberry after a few brews around town. Go Hokies!
